I can recall standing in the field while framing up the image, “Clouds and Furrows, Mossleigh, Alberta”. Even though more than a decade has passed, I can remember the temperature, the light breeze which was blowing at the time, and the sound of Meadow Larks singing in the distance. The same can be said about most of my large format images. Photography, to me, is transformative and there is a zen-like quality that comes from being in the field with camera-in-hand. Large format film is a slow and methodical process and I have always appreciated the way it slowed me down and put me “in the moment”. And I could re-visit the moment at any time while working on my photographs years later.
The images from this series cover more than a decade and are locations I have not been in touch with for many years… in fact, some of these places have succumbed to the persistence of time and no longer exist. In putting together this exhibit, I have gained great pleasure in re-visiting locations from the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s. These 4x5 prints, are printed on Epson, Hot Press rag paper using archival inks which highlights the exquisite detail in each image.
